Relais & Châteaux Weeshuis Gouda

One of the most beautiful (if not THE MOST beautiful) hotels in the Netherlands! We stayed two nights in the Family Suite which is amazing. The entire place has so much atmosphere and breathes history and style. Fairytale! We had dinner at the Hotel’s restaurant Liz with Michelin *. Very special stay - during the famous Candle Night in Gouda. Do book in advance!

It’s pure joy to stay at the Chateau. From starts the experience is wonderful. The staff is friendly and kind, helpful and thoughtful. Our room was also ready for our dog that was staying with us: it had a water bowl and a nice carpet but also delicious treat, such a delight for the dog. The staff also shared advises on what to do around Gouda, always with a smile! Thanks for all. It was a lovely stay

Charming boutique hotel housed in a beautifully appointed historic building. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff who oriented us to the hotel's various amenities, including a Michelin star restaurant and a bar. As someone who doesn't speak much Dutch I was very happy with the staff's ability to communicate with me in English (like everyone in Gouda, tbh). Our room was a cozy and romantic space. The room had a nice firm bed, separate wc, excellent spacious shower and a mini fridge with complementary still and sparkling water. Only one small criticism was that the lighting was fairly dim in the room with the curtains closed. Breakfast was included (not sure if it always is) and served in a beautiful room off the hotel's entrance. It included a small buffet of typical Dutch breakfast items, ham, aged gouda, breads of various kinds and hard boiled eggs as well as items on an a la carte menu from which we were encouraged to order two. I ordered the American style pancakes and the scrambled eggs. The pancakes were delicious but not really American style as Americans would think of it but I could understand the reasoning. The eggs came with diced up bacon and interestingly tiny garlic flavored croutons. All in all I was very pleased. We didn't eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on it aside from saying that some tables were available in a beautiful courtyard within the walls of the hotel for al fresco dining. Honestly, it was a great experience and I would securely recommend it for overnight stays in Gouda. I would say overall the best thing was the staff, but second only to the great breakfast!

I am 22 and engaged, my life is full of new experiences. But this place is exquisite, the rooms are spotless. Staff is extremely nice. Gouda is beautiful. I really advise the steegjes route, which is a walk of 4.4 km through the smallest streets this place has to offer. And the church is grande. The only thing that I might find negatively, is that I had not been aware I booked something so exquisite. Had I paid attention, I wouldn't have brought my clothes in a grocery bag. And I would have brought fancier clothes. But that really is my fault....
